Agree with much of this post. I’m a designer but I definitely understand the connection between visuals and words. My feeling is that headlines and microcopy are great places to set tone. Not going overboard or being too “smart” is a balancing act…

As a writer of product descriptions, it is necessary to be concise to the point of not really being able to fully convey what I want to. Thank you for this interesting piece: I had never heard of microcopy before today!

Great article! Any insights on tone for functional microcopy that is meant to orient the user? Something I am struggling with when it comes to microcopy for UI interactions is preserving voice/tone while remaining succinct.
