Pros & Cons Of Working In An Agency: Explained By A Senior Designer
I recently found out that one of my seniors from high school had become a designer, and I couldn’t miss this opportunity of asking one question from the never-ending list that I have.
I started at an agency, but I never knew what the right place for a newbie would be. So my senior helped me out with this; here is what he said.
If you’re new to UX design and aren’t sure whether you want to work for an agency or in-house, don’t worry.
Eight years ago, I was in the same situation. These are the pros and cons of you working as a designer at an agency.
Let’s start by listing the pros.
Working on a variety of projects.
You’re just starting in your UX career and want to establish a strong portfolio — agencies are a terrific method to get exposure to various clients and projects. For example, you could be working on a website-based application one week and something completely different the next. The quantity of exposure you’ll receive will help you develop a broad portfolio.
The ability to pick up new skills while working with a variety of clients.
Working on numerous projects and even with developers will be highly beneficial to you. In a short period, you will be able to adjust and become highly robust.
Projects are turned around quickly in this fast-paced environment.
You never have the same day twice. If you enjoy working on a range of tasks or getting bored quickly, an agency environment is ideal for you.
A multi-talented individual
You can be undecided about which field you want to focus on. Perhaps you aspire to be a generalist, or maybe you want to dabble in a variety of areas.
You could be researching an agency one day, wireframes the next, and pretty much anything in between. However, if you enjoy dabbling in several topics, the agency may be the appropriate fit for you.
