No, I didn’t use that gym membership as much as expected…

If I have a money sin, it’s this: forgetting when my subscriptions renew. Getting to grips with managing my financial subscriptions is something that, like Indiana Jones, has taken me on a journey where I’ve encountered snakes, Nazis, and unexpected villains.

Now sometimes I’m guilty. I will not be the first person to have optimistically taken out a gym membership at new year. However, when some companies make opting in something a 4-year-old could do and opting out something that requires a team of lawyers, accountants and perhaps the SAS a question needs to be asked.

Why is this and should it be legal? I’ve been fascinated by how some companies succeed for a long time purely because of their online presence. Fundamentally how you design your online storefront can make or break your company.

What I’m going to show you today are the practices, tricks and techniques which make cancelling your subscription virtually impossible.

I’d like to take this moment to thank Google for giving me a scholarship to their User Experience Design certificate even though I sincerely doubt they thought this would be what I used it for.
